Best albums of all time
« on: June 26, 2008, 12:17:04 PM »
OK, it's impossible to pick absolute top favorites.  But to start with, here are a few of what I consider to be all time classic albums.

John Lennon, Imagine - everybody knows the title song, but many don't realize that the album is awesome. Stand-out tracks: How, Gimme Some Truth, Jealous Guy, Crippled Inside, Oh My Love, Oh Yoko.

Beatles, Abbey Road
- the fab four spent the entire summer of 1969 polishing off their final (and I'd argue, finest) album.  Stand-out tracks include: Here Comes the Sun, Something, Because, Octopus's Garden, Come Together, You Never Gine Me Your Money.

In the midst of winter, I finally learned that there was, in me, an invincible summer.

There’s no next time. It’s now or never.

Greatest Hits, by definition, tend to be quite good, eggs.

Nice topic Dude.

Extremely difficult one really, how do you choose?! I like a myriad of different styles, so in that respect music generically is the winner for me, but to name a few bands/artists...

Queen - Just incredible. It's a bit 'techy' but the techniques used in the production of their music was light years ahead of their time and the music so brilliant.    Album: Probably Hot Space just because it has Under Pressure on it - maybe my fav song of all time.

Chemical Brothers: Completely different from Queen but these guys are geniuses in their own genre. Album - god knows, maybe exit planet dust.

I could go on and on and on and on!

REM, David Bowie, Danny Tengalia, D Ramirez, Bob Marley...

yes, Under Pressure is a superb Queen track, Martin.  I must check out the Hot Space album.

I haven't listened to the Chemical Brothers...but it's funny, I asked this same question yesterday in another forum, and someone also responded with Exit Planet Dust.  I need to check this album out....must look online for it.

And now that you've mentioned David Bowie.......my fave album of his, is the classic Hunky Dory.

I am a massive Mark Knopfler fan, and it is very difficult to pick out one album (his solo work is just superb).

In the interest of your, er, youtube interest - here are a few Chemical Brothers tracks to provide you with a bit of an initiation. They may not be your cup of tea but anyway, hope you like it! (some are actual videos, some aren't). I've also omitted some of the more heavy techno/breakbeat type tracks in favour of their more mellow ones.

We are the Night: I really didn't like this Album as much as the others, this track is kinda cool in a very weird way and non-chemical brothers way. The video is excellent:
