Gary Ablett - RIP
« on: January 02, 2012, 12:10:25 PM »
I was very sad to learn about the loss of a memorable player. He came in pretty late but still managed two titles and a Cup win (and what a cup win it was). I hate cancer. It's so unfair. My condolences to his family.

RIP Gary and thanks for everything!

A great servant across both sides of the Mersyside divide. Did we hear anything when he lost his job as reserve team coach? Of course not, that summed up the man. Quiet, dignified, professional and whatever was best for the club.

A terrible start to 2012 for his family, friends and the club.

RIP. YNWA.

total surprise.  I did not even realise that Gary was ill.

I see he first spotted issues when at Ipswich in mid 2010.  And a year and a half later he is dead.

What an awful illness.  Terrifying illness.  He is a year younger than me.

Thoughts are with his family and friends, at this terrible time.

3 years old than me, and it's times like this you start to realise your own mortality.

A great interview with Hansen about him:

Very sad news  :(

I remember when he came on the scene first, not
knowing what to make of him (used to rip the p**s
out of him with the brother, 'cos he looked a bit
gangly).

That didn't last though. When he was in the side
he'd make a contribution (not the type to go
missing): solid, versatile, unfussy, dependable,
played in two title-winning sides, enough said.

Respect!

YNWA.

Excellent summing up, Ed. Brilliant post. He'd play where he was asked to and give everything for the shirt, totally reliable and it's good to see that he was that sort of person off the pitch aswell.

It was another ill thought out decision by Souness to sell him, especially when the likes of Ruddock and Dicks were brought in.

Very sad news, especially at such a young age.
