We have to finish 6th (at least) and hope the FA Cup final is contested by either 2x Top Four or the 5th place team in order to get back into Europe. It's massively important we get back into Europe. Missing out on European football for 2 out of the last 3 seasons really wouldn't be good for us, especially with the two main sponsorship deals being up for renewal reasonably soon.
Makes for an interesting 11 games (in that respect). :)

Think Luis showed last night that his talents are more suited
to CL football, so if we're not even in Europe...

Kindof reminds me of when Kenny took over now, so there's room
for a push of sorts on the upper places in the league.

We gave it a chance but the poor substitutions Brendan made had the opposite effect.

But sure we told you all this ages ago and you were having
none of it. 3 limp exits from cup campaigns later is hardly a
surpise to me. ::)

Takes time though, especially with guys effectively learning their trade. Managing
campaigns is what it's all about and these guys, like you say, have no experience
at that. Presumably at the bottom end of the league it's acceptable to jettison cups
early and focus primarily on survival in the league (all eggs in one basket).

24th August 2011
"Swans boss Brendan Rodgers offered no excuses for his players as they crashed out of the
Carling Cup against League Two side Shrewsbury."

28th January 2012
Regarding exit to Bolton, 4th round FA cup
"Brendan made ten changes to the side that were beaten at Sunderland last weekend"

Next stop Liverpool Football club...
Now we wait to see the reaction in the league and
defer judgement 'til the end of the season.

I'll take my chances   ;D

As for 224, I note the following:

Jen Chang is an excellent appointment. He is a highly respected journalist with a lot of connections with the media, he has a good handle on the atmosphere in which he'll be working and has a lot of great relationships in that world , which makes well-prepared to work within that environment to control the image and message of the organization. He's very savvy and knowledgeable.

Just sayin'  ;D

Yes and I still stand by that. Jen was a very good choice for us as his proven track record shows.

Full steam ahead! Let's not mention that Jen had some meltdown in public while representing LFC and threatened some supporter.

Where was his experience of dealing with and knowing how to play the English media?

Maybe I missed it, and if so will hold my hands up, but so far the horses have been suited to different courses.

;)   some fellas are cut out for the factory floor, some for yard duties, and some for the personnel dept.

When it comes to Edward and the selection process, there sure as heck are no flies on that fella.  Nothing gets past him.

Being in the europa or not will not be a factor in attracting players.

You think because we'll be in europa next season players we want to buy will come because of that? Be serious.

I'm sure not being on Channel 5 or ITV 3 or 4 next season will cause sleepless nights for our sponsors......

I agree. There are 38 league games and all of those are available to the wider world. LFC gets plenty of exposure every week. And despite our league position Sky feature LFC as many times as Manure. That's because 1) we're exciting to watch and 2) we have a huge world-wide fan base.

There'll be other sponsors if SC decide to pull out.
Cheers,
Ray

Players in other European countries take the competition more seriously than we do in England.

Let's see what sort of replacement deal for Standard Chartered and Warrior, even allowing for inflation in these sort of things, we manage to get with no European football for the next two seasons.

These sort of sponsoship deals are as much about perception as anything actually tangible.

Being associated with, in the reflected glow of a team regularly in the latter stages of the CL (the position we were in at the time of the sc negotiations) or a team that can't get even get shown on ITV or Channel 5, unable to even be an also ran in the competition for also-rans?

Let's see how much our appeal has lost in value when the next set of figures get released.

I imagine the comparable sales figures for Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City shirts in the Far East from 2006 and from 2013 wouldn't bear that out.

Agree, in terms of profile of the club, experience
of the young lads/managers in Europe, attracting players
like Coutinho. The list goes on.

The mad thing is, when we don't have to worry about
Europe the only thing to realistically aim for in a season
is...

qualification for Europe  ::)

I'd be expecting us to go flat out 'til the end of the season.
