Title: Liverpool under Rafa Benitez are the best in Europe, says Carlo Ancelotti

AC Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti insists that Rafa Benitez’s Liverpool are the hardest team to play in Europe and has revealed an admiration for Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink that suggests the two coaches might be able to work together in the future.

The Italian is coveted by both Chelsea and Real Madrid, though he has played down suggestions that he will be leaving Milan in the summer.

Ancelotti knows all about Liverpool under Benitez having faced them in two Champions League finals, losing the first in 2005 after being 3-0 up at half time and gaining a measure of revenge two years later with a 2-1 victory in Athens.

“Liverpool are the hardest team to play against in Europe,” said Ancelotti.

“Benitez is a great coach. He has a well organised defence and the perfect counter-attack. To play against them is always dangerous.

“Manchester United are stronger but they let you play. Liverpool don’t.”

Despite speculation linking him with the soon to be vacant jobs at Stamford Bridge and the Bernabeu, Ancelotti has a contract with Milan through until 2010 and has repeated his desire to remain at the club.

“I have still not found a good reason to leave Milan,” he said.

“I feel good here and want to stay here for a long time.”

Hiddink is likely to stay on at Chelsea when his temporary managerial job ends at the end of the season though both he and the club are keen to see him stay on in some capacity, most likely as a director of football.

Some coaches may be put off by the idea of taking over at Chelsea with someone of such standing immediately above them, but Ancelotti revealed his admiration for the Dutchman, saying: “Hiddink is the coach I regard most highly.”

Benitez tops newspaper polls

Rafael Benitez has been voted the best coach in the world in a poll conducted by three European sports papers, two in Spain and one in Italy.

The Liverpool chief came out ahead of Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger and Fabio Capello.

Benitez said: "You cannot say that someone is the best in the world as it is almost impossible to guarantee that, but at least you have three big newspapers and supporters saying that we as a club are not bad.

"That for me is very positive because it means our staff are really good and the players are really good. The manager always depends on the players and his staff. You cannot be a good manager if you do not have a good team behind you."

I just hope the players and manager dont take their eye off the ball and start believing all of this hype.

Performances of late deserve praise but nothing has been won yet. The media are a fickle bunch and it doesnt take much to go from also rans to world beaters.

It will be interesting to see if the media are still singing the teams praises by the end of May.

Externally we've got to show supreme confidence, keep up the mind games. Internally we need feet on the ground.

I hope we can get back to where we were before this break.

I'd love to believe that Tes but the money is ruining the game.  Just this morning I've read that Citeh are preparing a £75million swoop for two players.  One of which is a defender rated at £35 million!!!!!  Who da fuk is that player by the way?!!!

All bubbles eventually burst and Platini is correctly doing his part to help it to.
We need an owner that will put us in a strong position, in line with Arsenal but without relying on London prices for when it does.

City won't go on spending forever and there's no guarantee it will bring the sustained success they are after. For all the money Abramovich spent just how many Champions Leagues did it buy him. Look at Bayern. A properly run club thanks to the Bundesliga's sensible administration. Another club we could do with taking an example from.

I noticed this post from three years ago.

No less a man than Carlo Ancelotti said that under Rafa, Liverpool were the hardest team to play in Europe.

Dalglish, Gerrard and Carragher, along with some journalists, and the usual muppets in places like RAWK, should hang their heads in shame.

It's just too bad those finals got to his head and had him lose the plot. I'd say he's our best manager since Sir Bob. I'm just as sad as the next men he never fully understand the English game because we played some top stuff during his first 3 seasons in charge + 3 months in his 5th season. But it remains a fact, he got 6 full seasons during which some 85 players came and went and he never took us to the next level in the true sense of the word.

seeing as Dalglish has taken himself off to America, to meet the wrath of our owners.....i suspected this might be a good time to mention Rafa again.   :D

and the reason(s) all the other times?  :D

Kenny just fancied taking in a Boston Spring, seeing as the English one has turned into Autumn.  8)

I wonder what the significance, if there is any, of Clarkey going with him to see Henk.

Clarke wasnt called for so he seems to be going for the moral support side of things.

Kenny may face the wrath of the American owners but they are calling hi to America to sack him. They might be ruthless but that would be another level again.

I just like the name, Rafa.  It makes me feel good all over. It's a nicely balanced name.   8)

I like your seasonal take on the King going to Boston.  And I am reminded of Willie Nelson's superb cover of Please Come to Boston http://youtu.be/Gwnlx-6WCng (http://youtu.be/Gwnlx-6WCng)

"Please come to Boston for the springtime
I'm stayin' here with some friends and they've got lots of room"

I am thinking it could be more of a Boston tea party for the king and his servant.    The King, along with his beverages, could get a soaking in Boston harbour.

Clarkey is probably just going along for mental support....riding shotgun for the King.

I also have images of the King shouting something along the lines of:    "A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse"     In the King's case, it would be:  "A team, a team, my kingdom for a team"   Unsure of the Glaswegian translation.

"A horse, a horse, my team for a horse", "Ok, a shetland pony then", "alright, a tin of dog food it is then."
