Title: Reds Vs Wolves
Post by: Kopite999 on January 26, 2010, 01:59:13 PM
I'm looking forward to this one. A vital 3 pts up for grabs, that could really give our season some momentum. I'm hoping for a close victory but i've got a niggling feeling this one is going to be 1-1. I've managed to get a ticket for the game but given my recent history at away games this season (Reading and Fulham), i could be a bad omen.

What's everyone else predicting will happen tonight?

Don't go [:(]

Given we've only conceded one in 4 league games, I'm gonna say 2-0 'Pool. Kuyt will grab one and maybe Stevie if he's back. Surely he'll have seen the determination last week and be up for this game.

Come on redmen!

I also went to 3 away games last season (Arsenal, Stoke, and Wigan) and we drew all of them with pretty awful performances! My lucks going to change tonight though  :'( :'(

Blimey you lot!!!  :o I'm forecasting a comfortable away win. 0-3. I think we've put our shaky performances behind us and confidence is quite good.

At least Stevie can relax knowing others can score when he's not around.

I hope this doesn't come back to bite me on the bum!  :-[

I'm new to the fourm but been a life long Liverpool fan.

The performance against Spurs was one of our greatest of the season in my opinion and I'd love for us to put on a similar display against Wolves except with a bit more skill and controlling the ball a bit more.

But as long as we win I'm pretty sure it will be smiles all round. :D

Bit nervous, but if we keep it really tight at the back then I fancy Riera tonight!

I'm going 3-1

Pretty easy game I reckon, Mick McCarthy seems to accept defeat against the big four before the game starts!  Be good to see if we get their reserves like the mancs did!

Be a big game for the Aqua man to establish himself in, be good to give Maxi a run out too.

I do reckon we'll let a daft set piece in though.  So I'm going for 2-0 up, they score around 70 odd minutes, mad panic for the next 10, then we seal it on the break!  Mark my words!!!!

I'm going to watch it on Radio5Live. Brilliant pictures!  :D

We last won at Molineux in 79 courtesy of a Alan Hansen goal. In oru last five visits we've drawn 2 and lost 3 but I still think we'll win.

I think we'll win by a goal but a good performance.. say 2-1..

A win tonight and then watch out that 4th spot.. it's ours.

got sunburnt on neck and shoulders yesterday, when cleaning the pool.

That was Palace's privilege in the FA Cup at the weekend so he'll be putting out a strong team tonight.

I'm listening on radio and it's pretty dire. Why do we take one step forward and then one back? Why in the name of all that is holy is Aquilani not playing after his best game for us last week?

Grrgghh!  >:(

Dude, nice pool. Is that really yours?  ;)

Post by: Ageing Stick Insect on January 26, 2010, 09:40:46 PM
We've created very few chances and Aquilani hasn't played. Coincidence?

Two defensive midfielders and one up front against Wolves who are just above the relegation zone? Wrong tactics Rafa!!  :(

I am so effing angry I could break something. That was disgusting. Pathetic. We were fooking delighted with a point. David N'Gog, the 20 year old boy, was the only one who showed any class or drive. Where's the effort and passion gone?

I'm sick to the teeth of these performances
Title: Re: Reds Vs Wolves
Post by: Ageing Stick Insect on January 26, 2010, 10:33:17 PM
Likewise Mark. How on earth does Maxi get 90 mins and a £20M signing gets left on the bench? It seems we created very little. I wonder why?

For God's Sake Rafa. Let them off the leash and play some attacking football!! Two of the three points we gained against Spurs last week have been clawed back by them after their 2-0 win.

I wish Rafa was made to justify his selection to the fans but he's accountable to no-one until the end of season. If we don't start playing more attacking football we will not make 4th. Of that I am certain.

Surely it would have been wiser to save Gerrard for the City and Arsenal games and if Aquilani couldn't make a full 90 minutes after last playing nearly a week ago then what was wrong with giving Pacheco 30 mins?

The new found spirit soon evaporated. I hope the players enjoy the Europa League because that's the best they have to look forward to if they don't buck up.

ASI, where you listening to it on Five Live? I that Matt Jackson's comment were very balanced for an ex bitter.

Ah well, at least (just like a Nun) we kept a clean sheet.  ::)

why doesn't Rafa go down swinging.

it's these type of games that are gonna do for him, come May time.

if you are not gonna throw the kitchen sink at a struggling Wolves team, then when the fu.ck do you ever go for it?

I was also depressed to see Stevie back in the team.  He's  been nothing short of wank all season.  I'd have preferred to have seen him sit this one out.

I hate to say it but I don't think Gerrard did us any good tonight. Carra should have kept the captainship and Gerrard should have been rested. Carra seems to inspire the lads but Gerrard is lacking that skill.

They're probably frustrated at Rafa's selection. I wonder what Aquilani thought of being left on the bench? Two games in Europa and we're out on this performance.

Yes. I'm watching it on Sky Sports now and his comments were quite kind comapred to the crap I'm watching!

That should be a given against such poor opposition. Portsmouth and West Ham won there but we couldn't. Shocking!

It isn't just the poor football under Rafa. It's the nonsensical choice of team and rigid tactics like no subs until 63 mins and 7-8 defensive players against lowly teams. So lets hear from Rafa supporters. How can you defend those tactics tonight? >:(

You don't, because you can't. I fail to understand his thinking in this situation. If we lose we remain on the same points total, however, if we win our total increases by 3, so there's nothing to lose. I realise it's the 'bleeding obvious' but I just don't understand why Rafa fails to get it. I can understand caution against the top 3 and even our direct competitors for fourth (though I'd prefer to try and gain an advantage a win would give us) but outside of those we should have nothing to fear and go all out for victory, no other thought but victory.

This season reminds me of the days under Ged.  We'd win a game then lose, then win, then lose, throw in a couple of draws for good measure and carry on with our consistently inconsistant form as the season progressed.

when I watch our games, I just see what looks like close season performances.

we just have been unable to get out of second gear, all season.

there is something badly wrong at the heart of this team.

Rafa finds positives in draw   ::)

Rafa Benitez treated Liverpool's goalless draw with Wolves as a positive result despite falling off the pace for a UEFA Champions League berth.

The Reds had the chance to return to the top four for the first time since September providing results went their way ahead of their clash against relegation-battling Wanderers on Tuesday night.

But even with the return of fit-again talisman Steven Gerrard, the Merseysiders' toothless display saw maximum points elude them and leave them trailing Tottenham by three points in the race for fourth place.

"I think it was a tough game in the first half," admitted Benitez to Sky Sports.

"We were more in control in the second half, they were pushing (for a goal). It was a tough game for both (sides) and maybe the result is fair.

Positive
"I think it (the draw) is positive - we kept a clean sheet and you can see the team was working very hard and everybody is working for everyone."

The game saw Benitez make two changes to the team that beat top-four rivals Spurs with skipper Gerrard and new-boy Maxi Rodriguez handed starts for the Molineux trip.

But neither player left their mark on the game, with Gerrard - returning from a hamstring injury - looking particularly rusty but the Reds boss was happy with the duo's performances in the draw.

But Benitez reckons Gerrard will be back on top form very soon.

"It was positive for us that he was available, you can see that he has to improve his match fitness but it's a question of time," the Spaniard said.

And on Rodriguez's role he added: "He can give us more competition for each position and that is also good because we have problems in the wide areas."

He fails to get it because he's so bloody-minded and stubborn Tes. He clearly has his favourites who he will not drop under any circumstances. He is naturally defensively minded in his tactics and he spouts the same bloody rubbish about "controlling the game" which he's just done now on the post-match interview. He doesn't even look frustrated and thought a point was a fair result. Arrgghh!

I feel like screaming. This cannot go on. He clearly cannot turn things around and for those who say he's entitled to one bad season I say this... If a manager cannot turn things around in over 35 games what makes you think there is the remotest chance he can improve next season when there will be little or no money to improve the squad?

This must be the 4th false dawn. The most frustrating thing is he has the players to win these kind of games but clearly cannot motivate or organise them into a potent attacking force. What skills does he have left? Answers on a postage stamp!

Aquilani must be just stunned, sitting there on the bench ALL game... what's he got to do? Excellent against Spurs, Wolves were there for the taking..not even a look in...
Riera played well and got subbed..
Maxi and SG didn't play well and were left on...

Three attacking players remain on the bench in a game we needed to win.

Draws killed our title challenge last season and with the amount of defeats we've suffered draws are simply not enough to make up for the previous points dropped.

Rafa says: "Today the decision was to play Gerrard or to play him [Aquilani]," said the Liverpool manager. "I thought that Gerrard had the power and also the leverage that he can change games, he can go forward and support the striker in a different way. Also, the game was very physical, the ball was always in the air, too many challenges and so we preferred to continue with the players we had because we were defending well and on the counter-attack we were a threat."

I do reckon we'll let a daft set piece in though.  So I'm going for 2-0 up, they score around 70 odd minutes, mad panic for the next 10, then we seal it on the break!  Mark my words!!!!

I did expect us to have at 3 shots though!!!!

Another classic performance for Mr 'Go-compare'!  From what I remember we had one actual shot (where the keeper had to move) and that was Rieras clip, chip, chop shot from outside the box with his back to goal.  Dont remember any others!  Joke!!

I'd say Kyriagkos was man of the match, then probably Masch.
Insua made several mistakes,
Riera was a waste of time,
Maxi had about 3 touches of the ball, he looked bright early on, but then went missing
Carra was turned inside out a couple of times
Dirk was either in his own half, or facing the wrong way
Stevie drifted in and out, couldnt get his touch right
Lucas was his usual waste of space
And Skrtel went from one good tackle to looking like a pub player all night

Ngog did ok when he came on, at least he was facing the right way

No excuse for other attackers not being brought on, especially Aqua man to open them up a bit

Same old story, Rafa would rather not lose than try to win.
