The Rest / Beatles
« on: June 06, 2008, 12:23:11 PM »
I must be the biggest Beatles fan on the planet......hundreds of bootlegs bought across the years (to supplement the official releases).

Anyone else like the fab four?

What's your favourite songs?  Too many to mention I guess.....but one of my all time faves is George's fantastic Here Comes the Sun (mind, it sounds far better on vinyl than it does on CD)

The Rest / 42-day deadline?

OK, we've done the 90 days thread, time for the 42 days one..

What's your feelings on New Labour wanting to extend the time you can be held without charge from 28 to 42 days?

LIVERPOOL will go into the forthcoming season as Europe's number one ranked team.

The Reds top UEFA's official rankings thanks to their Champions League performances over the past five seasons.

Having won the competition in 2005, been runners up to AC Milan in 2007 and made it through to the semi-finals this year, Rafa Benitez's team has accrued more ranking points than any other club in Europe.

Liverpool top the rankings table with 104.284 points, giving them a one point lead over Italian giants AC Milan.
Man Utd scramble to 7th spot.   :D

Peter Crouch will reportedly stay at Liverpool for another year in protest at his £15m price tag.

Crouch wants to exit Anfield after a season in which he made just nine Premier League starts, but the £15m price tag will put off potential suitors like Aston Villa and Portsmouth.

He is now said to be ready to sit out and wait for another season and then leave for nothing at the end of his contract.

The Daily Star is quoting a source close to Crouch as saying: "Peter's been treated appallingly by Benitez.

"First there's been the lack of games, then Benitez claiming Peter had been offered a new contract.

"Now comes this £15 million price-tag, which is ridiculous. The best option is to see out his last year at Liverpool and then go for nothing."

one can never be too sure of the validity of sources.....but I have to say that I was never at all convinced by Crouch, that he would sign any new contract.  We've all seen the delaying tactics used in the past by others (like Boy Wonder).

Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and curse,
When you're chewing on life's gristle,
Don't grumble,
Give a whistle

OK, in football terms, it doesn't get much worse than what happened in Moscow last night.

This morning the desolation is deafening with the silence all around me.....one can hear the wind bumping the tumbleweed across the Western prairie.

So on such a morning as this, one can only try and find some small crumb of comfort to hold on to.  And it is this.  Thank heavens that we are not in Chelsea's boots today.

Now that we see Juventus keen on landing Alonso, I'm wondering if Rafa always saw Barry as a straight replacement for Alonso this summer.....OR if he wanted to have both Barry and Alonso at Anfield for next season.

Though he's had an ordinary season, I am a fan of Alonso.  Though I am not that sure that his game is totally suitable to the tactics/approach that we need in the premiership.  One just doesn't get the amount of time, in this league, that a player of his class needs.

The Gareth Barry saga must be coming to a conclusion very soon, I'd imagine.  Martin O'Neill is probably mightily pissed off with us.  He'll do all in his powers to hold on to his captain.

I also see in today's Birmingham Mail, other worrying developments.

MARTIN O'Neill is believed to have cooled his interest in signing Scott Carson on a permanent basis as he focuses on the three potential recruits he believes could thrive at Villa Park.

The Villa boss was offered Carson at a reduced £6million fee by Rafa Benitez as a sweetner to try and advance his negotiations to buy GarethBarry, but O'Neill still thinks that is too much.

The Villa boss instead has turned to Manchester United's Ben Foster on loan, as revealed by the Mail yesterday and American 'keeper Brad Guzan.
