yes, I wonder how practical day to day decisions are taken (especially re summer transfer issues), when we have two owners who won't even speak to each other.

Just realised that starting a post with "Dude" makes me sound like Bill or Ted.
:D  I missed this post when i was reading the thread earlier.

if you're not into the whole brevity thing, then I guess you could use, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino.

dude suffices tho.

I wish I had signed up without the underscores between the names in my handle.

Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and curse,
When you're chewing on life's gristle,
Don't grumble,
Give a whistle

OK, in football terms, it doesn't get much worse than what happened in Moscow last night.

This morning the desolation is deafening with the silence all around can hear the wind bumping the tumbleweed across the Western prairie.

So on such a morning as this, one can only try and find some small crumb of comfort to hold on to.  And it is this.  Thank heavens that we are not in Chelsea's boots today.

Now that we see Juventus keen on landing Alonso, I'm wondering if Rafa always saw Barry as a straight replacement for Alonso this summer.....OR if he wanted to have both Barry and Alonso at Anfield for next season.

Though he's had an ordinary season, I am a fan of Alonso.  Though I am not that sure that his game is totally suitable to the tactics/approach that we need in the premiership.  One just doesn't get the amount of time, in this league, that a player of his class needs.

I don't see any blue heart to click on.

the end of may looms, and with it the question of if Gillett can finally offload his shares.

The media however suggest that nothing will happen til at least the autumn.

I'd love to know what is happening (if anything) with the owners (and DIC) behind the scenes.

Dude - the fact RAWK use SMF was part of the decision, and I've seen it used well on other high-volume forums, it seems to be the most "professional" of the free scripts out there. PHPBB isn't bad, but has a reputation for being easily hacked.
yes, the fact that SMF ran so well on a high volume forum like RAWK really impressed me as well.

As for PhpBB, it's best to stay away.  I am a member of one forum (a commerical wordpress theme forum) and they have been looking to move away from PhpBB.   They have been asking everyone for their advice and recommendations, re a better forum script.  It just isn't a very good script (compared to SMF).  You made a great choice.  Good luck with the forum.

PS - I have sent this url to three of my friends (who are big Liverpool fans, and who chat in another big forum).

the first series was excellent.....but it has been a downward slope ever since.

the contestants are far too far up their own arses, and impossible to empathise with.

plus the BB producers keep introducing stupid new things into the show  (e.g. that time a couple of years ago where they divided the house in two with a prison like fence).

Moores and Parry made a helluva mistake in bringing in the yanks.

I just hope the Texan goes sooner rather than later.

Very Carson feeling wanted.

10 million sounds a lot of money for a bog standard keeper.  But I think most of us haven't factored in the lucrative new TV deal.....and thus 10 million, like you say, could be very do-able (and pretty average for similar transfers in the future).

We should start rumours that Villa are totally skint, their US owner has taken all their cash and they just can't afford Carson.

:D  :D  :D

You could well be right, Julie.  It might be gamesmanship.

But if it were me (i.e. if I were the Villa boss), I'd be looking beyond Carson as well.  I don't rate the lad that much.  Ben Foster is a much better keeper imho.  But like you say, is there any hope of him leaving OT.  If I were O'Neill, I'd be trying to at least get Foster on a one year loan deal.  It would probably very much suit Foster as well.

Martin O'Neill is a highly intelligent individual.  And he's pissed I bet (re Barry).  if we do get Barry, I suspect it will be a long drawn out process and will possibly mess up our overall summer transfer scheme.

The Gareth Barry saga must be coming to a conclusion very soon, I'd imagine.  Martin O'Neill is probably mightily pissed off with us.  He'll do all in his powers to hold on to his captain.

I also see in today's Birmingham Mail, other worrying developments.

MARTIN O'Neill is believed to have cooled his interest in signing Scott Carson on a permanent basis as he focuses on the three potential recruits he believes could thrive at Villa Park.

The Villa boss was offered Carson at a reduced £6million fee by Rafa Benitez as a sweetner to try and advance his negotiations to buy GarethBarry, but O'Neill still thinks that is too much.

The Villa boss instead has turned to Manchester United's Ben Foster on loan, as revealed by the Mail yesterday and American 'keeper Brad Guzan.

Thanks for the kind words, Jim.  Yes, I was always encouraging you in the blog, to go with a forum....and yes I highly recommended SMF.

I have tried just about every board over the years (both setting up/maintaining, and using) and SMF is by far the best free forum script for a big board (while Vanilla, again an open source script, is my top choice for a small board).

I haven't much experience of this new version of SMF (I know it is only in beta as yet).

BTW RAWK uses SMF and it is one of the biggest Liverpool forums in the world.

as Julie says, well played Jim on setting up this forum.

Your blog was great and I loved contributing (under toshackrises).....but blogs are not the best format for lively footy discussion.

The timing is pretty good too.  Being the close season, the forum can get a chance to build up before the new season begins.

Hoping Chelsea can do it tomorrow night.  I couldn't stand the thought of United winning.
