Crikey, Ed is David from Dublin! Apologies for using the C word! I just didn't like his attitude toward us and Rafa at the end of 2008-2009 when we wanted to sign Barry!

I'll be Sad to see the Monster leave! But I suppose we have to move on now and get top dollar for him. I think Rafa valued him around 50 million!! In my opinion his replacement is gonna be the key decision that determines the outcome of our season, cos we've always needed a Hard Man in the centre! A real test of Hodgson's ability.

Granted, lately there has been much joy surrounding the signing of Joe Cole. However it really throws the question of defensive midfield into sharp focus. Ordinarily when a player speaks about wanting to join another club (Barcelona last Summer) and pretty much uses every underhand and loathsome tactic in the screaming for a transfer book (this summer!), I say f**k off and rightly so. Anyway, Roy Hodgson can do whatever he likes as far as I'm concerned if he gets Mascherano to stay one more year! This is futile but, I'd be very sorry to see him leave. He's the Monster!

Dunno, I think Stevie G has contributed immensely to LFC over the years (obviously!). I also think perhaps having done the heavy lifting for such a long time (kindof the way a bird might say "I gave you the best years of my life"  :'() and to be fair kept us afloat at times, he got it into his head that he either wanted to join a team of fellow superstars such as, for example, Barcelona, and this is perhaps the key point:

"where he would be amongst his peers and could take his rightful place on the world-class stage".

Anyway what prevented him from doing this was a notion that winning the league with us would top that and afterwards he could join whoever he liked anyway. Along comes his playmate Torres and things are fine for another while.

It appears to be clear however that last season his relationship with Rafa broke down and one wonders what effect that had on his performances (though to be fair there were injuries). Anyway it's all conjecture but ultimately he captained us to SEVENTH IN THE LEAGUE last season.

So yeah, I agree with Kopite about his staus as a legend, but also take the Dudes point on socialism, because Kuyt and Reina are the type of players that truly understand the idea of team (these guys made it to the WC final and it's almost precisely the fact that Pepe is big enough NOT to be in the team for Spain).

oh dear, anyway not going to go on a rant, just going to mention Cisse & £14 million :'(

Hmmmm, it's true that Stevie was Godawful shine-a-light last season and looked a bit antique (robocop muscles and none of the hunger of youth) compared with for example Bastian Schweinsteiger at the WC and was also a rubbish captain for England, IMO, being upstaged by John Terry.

Unless I'm mistaken, i again found it quite strange that he never said anything about Rafa after he left. Sometimes I wonder whether he can now only play in a team of superstars or worse has gotten a bit too used to FAILURE recently.

Anyway Gerrard rant over.....

However, I don't think that there is anyone on this forum who would say that he fulfilled his role as captain of Liverpool FC last season, because Pepe Reina was the player that I looked to as our captain last season.

Maybe he can turn back the years this season and let rip.....hope so!

Agree with the dude, and the fact that he's left London is a good sign, hoping that he's joined us for the right reasons (win trophies) and is here with a point to prove! Seriously though, I'm expecting week in week out him making stuff happen on the pitch, not once every 6 weeks! No excuses for him! Welcome to Anfield Joe!

Jesus, Kopite wtf's up with Benayoun, I liked him? Great feet and Balance. Tricky winger, bit more pace and he would have been amazing! Mind you, he should probably quit speaking about Liverpool now, though it was Wilkins who made the last comment.

btw, just making a note here, Chris Bascombe had the Benayoun story almost the whole of last year and I never believed it!

That's a shame, I always liked Yossi, felt he wore the shirt....If he could have gone up one more level though he would have been maybe a regular first 11 player.

On a separate note, regarding the decline of Stevie G, seeing Schweinsteiger playing for Germany in the World Cup reminded me what we're missing. This clip from Jackie Brown sums it up for me! (7 minutes in!)

wtf happened to you man, your ass used to be beautiful! lol :)

The players, the manager and the supporters. Directors don't come into it!

Anyway, I like to take this opportunity to welcome Roy Hodgson to our club! & even though I've never had a bad word to say about Mascherano, IF HE WANTS TO LEAVE, JUST F**K OFF! Regards Torres, I'd argue like many others, that he owes us another season! Stevie G has probably earned the right to do whatever he likes (so no hard feelings there!).

Here we are, walking through the storm....

LOL  :) I used labour under this delusion that we are Liverpool and this idea that We're Gonna Be Fine Now I'm thinking that all along the club has been silently turning into a Coen Brother's movie:

"Please I need help......Rafa I think it's time we start talking about a divorce...We're going to be fine....I need help......We're going to be fine....I've tried to be a serious club....just tell him I need help...please?....fine...I need help"

Maybe we're NOT gonna be fine!! (I may change my posting name to A Serious Man!) :'(

All I can say is that currently I'm a bit worried. There just doesn't seem to be anyone left that has a clue what the club's about (Granted Daglish and Lee are still there but in what capacity?) Two Yanks, a Chelsea fan and a couple more toffs. Mainly, it appears to be a bunch of blow-ins with very little credibility who appear to be making knee-jerk, short-term, self-interested decisions. I don't want to sound alarmist but Newcastle and Leeds now figure in my thinking! :o
