Liverpool FC, football, sport / Chinese Billionaire offers £237M to RBS
« on: August 02, 2010, 09:06:16 AM »
The daily Telegraph and Guardian newspapers are running a story this morning that a Chinese billionaire has offered to buy Liverpool's debt of £237M. He's put this offer to RBS direct.

The Telegraph are also reporting that the Syrian offer is just a ploy by Gillett to delay any decision as all offers must be considered.

If G&H cannot block this deal (it's the only one on the table apparently) then a deal could be done by the end of August and the new Chinese owner could hand a transfer kitty to the club. No mention of a stadium build though but the top priority is to get H&G out and preferably without any profit.

The Rest / An interesting stat from the World Cup
« on: June 30, 2010, 06:44:18 PM »
Of the eight teams who made it through to the quarter-finals seven topped their groups.

The exception was Ghana who played the USA. The USA topped their group with a last minute goal against Algeria.

Now I'm not saying we would have won the Cup but had that goal not gone in we would have played Ghana, not Germany and I'd like to think England, whilst not brilliant, were good enough to beat Ghana.

On such small things so much changed. Your thoughts may differ.

Liverpool FC, football, sport / BBC Predictor - who will be 4th?
« on: March 30, 2010, 07:50:56 PM »

Use your skill and judgement to predict the results of the remaining games of those in with a shout of 4th.

Here is the result of my efforts. I didn't check the table as I entered results and to be honest I was surprised to see we 'finished' 4th. Spurs and City had a clear lead over us but that is distorted because of their quite difficult run-in.

Anyway, have a go and list your final table.

Liverpool FC, football, sport / Has anyone noticed the heart symbol?

Have you noticed the heart symbol below a user's profile? It allows you to add to someone's reputation by commenting on the quality of a post. Negative comments can also be given.

I was curious as to why no-one had any reputation points. Mystery solved.  :)

Liverpool FC, football, sport / We did get lucky... eventually!

Not such a bad weekend after all. Okay, we drew but so did Spurs and just now, Villa. With Man City losing we've not lost any ground to the 4th spot after playing at one of the more difficult grounds where only Chelsea, Manure and Birmingham have won.

When times are difficult you have to clutch at anything but if I was a Villa fan especially I'd be feeling pretty piddled off after drawing at home to West Ham and spurning two or three good chances.

A significant game for us after Wednesday night. If you're able to vote please do so. Your vote won't identify you so don't be shy!  ;)

12.45pm kick-off on Saturday. Poll closes at 12:40pm (assuming I remember!)

Come on yooooooo Reds!!!  8)

I'll get the ball rolling with a confidence-boosting away win. Sad misguided fool that I am!  :)

Liverpool FC, football, sport / Liverpool v Arsenal score?
« on: December 12, 2009, 10:43:18 AM »
This is a huge game for both sides after recent results. The poll will close at 16:00GMT Sunday.

I'll go for a narrow home win. I think Rafa will get them fired up just as he did against Utd. We just have to watch Arshavin doesn't repeat his efforts!

Liverpool FC, football, sport / As Aquilani settles what happens to Lucas?
« on: December 08, 2009, 11:48:23 PM »
It looks very much as though Alberto will make his home debut tomorrow at the expense of Lucas. How long he lasts is another matter but it does seem unlikely he'll see out 90 mins.

Given Rafa's tendency to pick Masch and Lucas as his preferred midfield combo so far this season if Alberto has a good game (as we all hope he does!) then where does ths leave Lucas? I'm not great fan of his but that's more down to his style (too defensive) than anything personal. Plus we already have a defensive midfielder in Masch so 2 is too cautious.

I guess given AA's lack of 1st team games he'll swap with Lucas over the next half-dozen games but eventually I would expect that place to become Alberto's, not Lucas's.

Or will Rafa alternate them as he may feel he wants to prove a point about Lucas and if he does will it frustrate Alberto? We still need Lucas so how would you play it?

Liverpool FC, football, sport / Masch - different attitude recently?
« on: November 25, 2009, 11:05:24 PM »
I don't know about you guys but I'm quite pleased at Masch's attitude in recent games plus his positive post-match comments about going for the Europa Cup. These aren't the actions or words of someone who wants away in January. Maybe he's had a change of heart.

Anyone agree with me?

Liverpool FC, football, sport / Newsflash! Rafa signs new contract!
« on: March 18, 2009, 09:07:56 PM »
Just announced on the Liverpool FC site. Rafa Benitez has signed a contract extension with Liverpool FC, keeping him at the club until 2014.

They say things come in threes. That's great news for all supporters.

And it shows how little even the quality press know. Even today, the Daily Telegraph was suggesting he was delaying presumably because Real Madrid would come calling in the summer. Sorry Real, you'll have to look elsewhere!

This table proves we are the most successful club in the English League since its conception. And having played in one season less that Manure! Stick that in your pipe and smoke it old red nose!  :P

Liverpool FC, football, sport / Ou and out attack against Wigan required
« on: January 27, 2009, 09:57:51 PM »
As I wrote this Manure are 0-5 up at West Brom against 10 men with a harsh sending off for the home team. No surprise there then!  >:(

We have to go out against Wigan tomorrow night with real intent. Never mind all this 4-2-3-1 rubbish. What formation do Manure line-up with? You don't get all this 4-2-3-1 with them. They always play two up front.

We have simply got to get a win tomorrow and by a few goals to show real intent. A 0-1 win will give us 3 points and I'd obviously take that but we really need to start knocking in the goals. How many have we scored this year? 2 against PNE, 0 against Stoke and 1 against Everton twice. That's 4 in 4 games. Not acceptable.

I don't care about the Chelsea game on Sunday. We can concern ourselves with that after tomorrow. A comfortable win is absolutely essential. Anything less and we're handing Manure the initiative.

If I was in the dressing room I'd hang a picture of Manure showing off the Premiership trophy until the end of the season. If that doesn't give our players enough incentive then they're not fit to wear the shirt!

Those of you who have access to the BBC Sports website have probably seen Rafa's amazing press conference this afternoon or have read a summary of it.

He's had a real go at Ferguson but rather than Keegan's infamous emotional rant back in the 90's this one was all fact-based and had none of the Keegan emotion.

Clearly Ferguson has riled Rafa but has Rafa done the right thing by reacting the way he has? Could it put pressure on us before this weekend's game or will it cause more pressure for Utd who face a difficult home game against Chelsea?

Personally I think it's time someone stood up to this character who has had his own way for far too long. And the way he's done it by using facts and not pure emotion shows he has full control. Well done Rafa!  :)

I haven't deliberately avoided posting here. I just needed a reason.
