Liverpool FC, football, sport / Top of the Prem and now top qualifier in CL
« on: December 09, 2008, 11:21:56 PM »
Lots of positives from tonight's performance. Quiet first half but in the second good performances from Lucas, Babel, Ngog and Riera. In fact a great performance from young Albert. But Keane also had one of his best games and he was buzzing in the second half. With a bit more generosity from Babel he could have scored. Dossena also had a good game. hard to criticise anyone really.

Nice too to see three Academy youngsters make their debut and do well with their limited time on the field.

And with reports on the Telegraph site tonight that Rafa is close to a 5 year deal it's a good time to be a Liverpool supporter.  :)

Liverpool FC, football, sport / Firesale at LFC? How likely is it?
« on: November 12, 2008, 11:56:50 AM »
Several newspapers are today reporting that H&G may be forced to sell top players to repay some of the loan they bought the club with. Here is the Times' take on it http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/liverpool/article5134437.ece.

I cannot see a situation where this would happen. If H&G don't have the money then they would just accept the offer from the Sheikh wouldn't they (which is still on the table) and walk away with a decent profit?

Why sell some of your top players with the inevitable knock-on effect of slipping down the table and thereby reducing the overall value of the club? It makes no financial sense whatsoever. I know this is just the opinion of one man but how ever ludicrous it may seem there's nothing these Yanks won't do to save their backsides!

What's more likely to happen? Our top players being sold or H&G selling up? Or the only other option is that they get another six month extension but that doesn't solve the problem, it just postpones it until the summer.

Personally if they don't get an extension from RBS/Watchovia I think they will have to sell the club to the Sheikh, like it or not. God, how I hate these two!  >:(

Some encouraging news on a new contract for Rafa. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/liverpool/7715348.stm

Are G&H getting the house in order prior to a sale?  :)

I'll get the ball rolling with 1-2. You can change your prediction up to the poll close at 5pm GMT Saturday.

Can we get more than 10 people to join in?  :'(

AS the title say's - please change the time on the server. All posting times are still in BST and not GMT.

After the great win on Sunday it's vital the momentum is maintained. Will Crouchy spoil the party? Let's hope not!

Voting will close at 7.30pm Wednesday if I remember!  ;D

I'll start the ball rolling with a 2-0 scoreline and 2 yellows to Portsmouth.

Should be interesting.

Liverpool FC, football, sport / Everton v Liverpool score prediction
« on: September 25, 2008, 10:34:32 PM »
Just a bit of fun before the derby on Saturday. No predictions posted after 12.45pm on Saturday will be taken seriously.  ;) If your prediction isn't shown above then post your score.

I'll start the ball rolling with a 2-1 win for the Reds  :D

I've just read Rick Parry's column on the LiverpoolFC site and quite frankly I don't know why he bothered writing it!  :( It's full of facts - many stating the bleeding obvious - that any of us could have written.

What the CE should be telling us about is news about the club. Surely there are business deals being done and other matters not directly related to the team he should be telling us about. I don't expect him to divulge confidential info like when the Sheikh will be popping in for a tour round the trophy room but if that is all he can find to write about no wonder people want him out! He's doing sod all!

Rafa could have written that report! Here's a link if anyone's bothered.  http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/NG161448080925-1258.htm

Liverpool FC, football, sport / Who is Zippy and where is Jim Boardman?
« on: September 11, 2008, 06:52:27 PM »
This is a moderated board as Calley found out to his cost but Zippy has only posted once and there is still no sign of Jim Boardman.

Does anyone know why he has only posted intermittently on Anfield Road in the last couple of months and why he hasn't posted here for yonks.

Does Zippy know of Jim's whereabouts? I really do miss his articles and with the Utd game less than 48 hours away and the rumours of a Middle East buyout of the club's despised owners there is no shortage of material.

The sudden takeover by an Abu Dhabi group of Manchester City should have all the alarm bells ringing in Anfield.

They clearly have huge amounts of money as shown by today's outrageous bid for Berbatov. Their aims are to not just break into the top four but to win the Premiership. As I type this they are lining up bids for David Villa and Mario Gomez. They clearly mean business.

This places Liverpool (as the lowest of the top 4) in a dangerous position as clearly our financial muscle is limited under Hicks & Gilett. It's vital that DIC should make a bid for the club this autumn so that come the January window we have the resources to strengthen our squad. If none of this happens we could well slip out of the top four with all the ramifications that brings!  :o

What a day!

Liverpool FC, football, sport / Was Rafa disrespectful to Capello?
« on: August 30, 2008, 11:29:34 AM »
The Telegraph is reporting today that Rafa told Capello yesterday that club came before country as far as the timing of Gerrard's op was concerned. As a Spaniard he has no interest in the England team other than hoping that players return to the club uninjured. That's the downside of having a non-English manager. Ferguson has the same attitude with his Utd players. I don't like it but I accept that's the price you pay for having a top foreign manager. Logically it made sense from a club perspective for Gerrard to have the op this week.

But I think he was disrespectful to Capello by not speaking to him before the op and letting him know the situation. Apparently Capello only found out through the England team doctor. That is not the right way of doing things and I think it doesn't reflect well on either Rafa or Liverpool FC.

Do you agree?

The Times is reporting that the anticipated start of the stadium build will not go ahead due to ... guess what! H&G can't raise the money!  :o

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/liverpool/article4629692.ece

Surely it's only a matter of time before they have to sell up?

Liverpool FC, football, sport / Rafa - an insight into his family life
« on: August 22, 2008, 02:28:44 PM »
Instead of all the usual stuff about who's leaving and arriving have a read of this. If you ever thought Rafa would walk away from Anfield think again. Not if his wife and daughters have anything to do with it!  :D
