Liverpool FC, football, sport / Re: Albert Riera done deal
« on: August 27, 2008, 01:59:20 PM »
I am very unhappy about those players (and Barry was one of them) who's wish to come to Liverpool is simply because it allows them to play in the Champions League. I would much rather hear their reasons as "I wanted to play for a world-famous club" or even "I wanted to play for Benitez or with players such as Torres and Gerrard".

To me their reasons simply smack of selfishness and Liverpool is simply the vehicle to allow them their desire. I'm willing to bet that should we fail to qualify tonight the Riera deal will not go through.

Ahhh, yes. Another season, another round of "Hicks has no money" rumors.

Some things never change (and never will I guess).   ;D

If Hicks had the money he would have announced it by now. That fact that he hasn't (so far) leads to a legitimate question. And you coming here with that comment just makes me think that you think your man in untouchable. Absolutely not!

There is "NO" Money for the stadium, they cannot go forward, look at "Glorypark". this is thought as to why DIC came back...they are just watching the two owners run out of money and options

So there's absolutely no question of any further extension to this deadline of 31 Jan. I wouldn't put it past them to negotiate a further extension and that would presumably add more interest to the debt. Or will the bank run out of patience and say 'put up or get out'.

Jan 31 is a deadline of course. They may well come up with the money tomorrow - just like I may win the Lottery tomorrow. Yeh, right!  ::)

Where's Jim? The season's started and we've hardly heard a peek from him. ???

Liverpool FC, football, sport / Rafa - an insight into his family life

Instead of all the usual stuff about who's leaving and arriving have a read of this. If you ever thought Rafa would walk away from Anfield think again. Not if his wife and daughters have anything to do with it!  :D

DIC did make a decent offer. £40million profit for the owners but they turned it down.

That was when H&G weren't speaking to one another and still had a viable financial plan. Once they realise they cannot raise the money required they may be forced to accept an offer from DIC and it may not be as generous as the previous one.

This is an open question. If the deadline is reached and they can't raise the money what happens then?

Thanks for the quotes Phil. I'm not going to worry about the rumours of Gillett trying to split the team because there's no evidence that has affected performance and as quoted, Alonso and Rafa probably aren't the best of freinds currently.

The owners haven't put much if any of their own money into player investment this year. The money from the Premiership, CL and player sales has covered the cost of the 3 high profile players we've bought. No sign of that £20M Rafa was promised.

I don't see how G&H can possibly raise the money in the current economic climate and with the cost of steel having rocketed it makes it doubly-difficult.

If DIC make them a decent enough offer they can use that to invest in their US businesses which they are far more familiar with. Trying to turn an English football club into a 'franchise' fills me with horror!  :o

I would still have concerns about DIC. They know even less about running a footie club. That's where a good CE is vital and Rick Parry does not fit that bill! I just hope that if they did come in they wouldn't change Rafa because that would mean a new manager and another team build and that would mean no title for another 5 years!  >:(

Bloody 'ell! The days of David Moores and a stable invisible board seems like eons ago!  :(

This was posted on the LFC website earlier today

Chief Executive Rick Parry and manager Rafael Benitez have vowed to 'move forward together' after holding clear the air talks at Anfield. It had been suggested the working relationship between the two had become strained over Liverpool's activity in the transfer market.
But with the talks being described as 'positive', Parry and Benitez are continuing to work on strengthening the squad before the window closes at the end of the month.
Benitez said: "Clear the air talks have taken place. It was a positive discussion and we will now move forward together.
Parry added: "I can confirm that we had a friendly and positive meeting and we're moving forward."

Obviously political-speak. What does it mean in plain English? Sounds like a feeble attempt to patch up obvious differences over Barry. I just hope that Rafa manages to get his 2nd preference - Albert Riera. Is this guy any good and would he be a better choice than GB?

Thanks Martin. Looks like they have a few months left to find the cash. Something tells me they ain't going to do it and come February all the dirty washing will be back in the public eye.  :(

I believe the deadline for H&G getting enough money for the new stadium build is quite close. Jim's website has no news about this. Does anyone know what the latest situation is?

I imagine in these difficult financial times H&G will struggle to find the funds. If that's the case then where does that leave the club? We've had so many false dawns with this stadium and further delays will being shame to this great club.

If H&G don't raise the money by a certain date what happens then? Do they get an extension or do they have to apply for planning permission again?

God, what a mess!  >:(

just on the official site there and they have published the Rafa press conference in full with the criticism of Parry and the owners included. Very unlike LFC.tv. They have always tried to avoid this kind of controversy and pretend everything is rosy.

Why are we starting another season with this s*** again.

I hate the Yanks for this

I've read the site and I see no criticism of either Parry or the Yanks. He is just frustrated that everyone seems to think it was he who was negotiating with Villa. In fact it was Rick Parry. That's who I would expect to do the wheeling and dealing, not the manager.

He wouldn't be so daft as to openly criticise either owner on the eve of a new season. What he thinks of them privately is a different matter of course.

The Times is reporting the deal looks off. H&G have allegedly refused a £12M interest-free loan from a millionaire LFC fan. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/article4488880.ece

With the deadline approaching for the financial committment on the stadium build I'm wondering if H&G are close to pulling out. Rafa seems to have used money from player sales for his purchases with nothing from the Yanks. Whatever happened to the £20M he was promised? ::)

Is this the beginning of the end? ???

Tes, your last two posts are what I would expect a Manure fan to post.  >:(

Why don't you go to their site and post rubbish instead of trying to wind up fellow supporters.

Liverpool FC, football, sport / Re: Rafa's last season?
« on: July 29, 2008, 10:11:10 PM »
Absolutely not!  ??? The quality of players he has brought in over the last 12 months alone will soon reap benefits. And he's honest enough to get rid if he thinks the player is not up to it. My only regret was his decision to release Crouchy who I thought was an excellent player but I accept he didn't fit into the strategic plan.

With SAF due to go in 2 years and Wenger likely to be offered the France job about the same time it only leaves big Phil as serious competition. I honestly feel we can overtake Arsenal this season and get close to Man U especially with Copperglow Ron being out until late Sept or so.

All in all a lot to feel confident about. ;D

This report from the BBC Football Gossip page hints that the Alonso move might be off...  Xabi Alonso is happy to plan for life at Liverpool next season as his protracted move to Juventus remains in the balance. (Press Association 1751 BST)

With no further news on a new offer for Barry I wonder if things have stalled with Rafa not willing to pay the silly money AV are asking for Barry.  ::)
