Liverpool midfield star set for January swap deal with AC Milan's Jeremy Menez

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/464375/Liverpool-midfield-star-set-for-January-swap-deal-with-AC-Milan-s-Jeremy-Menez

So we're going to swop our only defensive midfielder for an attacker. That one transfer seems to sum Rodgers' whole philosophy up.

It was interesting the calabre of the clubs that were linked with Lucas during the Summer - the interest in Joe Allen was noticable by it's complete absence.

Do us all a favour, especially yourselves, and hack Blue Kipper or Red Cafe instead. The meltdown would be far bigger and far more funny.

Hacking this forum is as sad as a person can get. Put your talents to greater use guys.

I'm really not sure what to think of this appointment.

Is it another 'yes man' grateful of the opportunity and therefore eternally loyal 'come what may' to Rodgers, or is it a minor masterstroke?

He did superbly at Dony Rovers, and along with the new first team coach, Pepijn Lijnders, who is also apparently highly rated as a coach, has a 'forward thinking' philosphy rather than 'lump it long, and win the second ball'.

I thought it was too much to expect a return of Pako, especially if Rodgers had a say in the appointment. Whilst it would have been a turkey voting for Christmas, it would have least looked like Rodgers was putting the club first, above any personal aspect.

I know it's not exactly 'kicked off', at least not in footballing terms, but I thought it best to get it up and running.

Liverpool plan Inter swap deal

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/04/liverpool-plan-inter-swap-deal/

Liverpool have apparently proposed a swap deal to Inter for young midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

The 20-year-old has been in and out of the Nerazzurri team this season, and may be allowed to leave the club in the summer, despite only recently signing a new five-year deal.

And, according to the Daily Telegraph, Liverpool are ready to offer Lucas Leiva plus cash to entice Inter to part with Kovacic.

It is thought that Nerazzurri coach Roberto Mancini is a fan of Lucas and feels he will be more useful tactically than Kovacic.

While, Liverpooi coach Brendan Rodgers is keen to add the young Croatian to his squad.

So we continue to empty the cupboard of anything that looks like 'experience' in order to further lower the average age of any first 11 we can put out.

Lucas should be an absolute 'no-go' this Summer.

I step out to fetch some ciggies and all Hell descends.  ;D

So brothers and sisters (there may be some 'Sheilas' reading this), as it's soon to be December, and our team are doing their best to tax our feelings of peace to all mankind (most importantly fellow Reds), here's some love:

And no jokes about the 'sort' of ciggies.  ;D

Seeing as we abstained from the last one, got involved in 2013, having not bothered in 2012, hopefully as it's an odd number we'll be involved this time around.

Maybe Toure's replacement unless Ilori's earmarked to be it?

Selling Suso if he's not signed or we've not offered him a contract. I don't know whether we can sell a player who's on a season long loan but we ought to try with Assaidi, who is apparently having all his wages covered by Stoke.

Look again for a defensive midfielder and hopefully get 'Arry to take Johnson off our hands because Manquillo and Flanno have right back stitched up between them.

Get Loic Remy, who would be perfect for our system.  ::)

Liverpool FC, football, sport / How safe is the manager's job?
« on: August 28, 2014, 02:52:11 PM »
I was wondering with the amount of money he's had this Summer and the amount overall, and considering this is now his third season, is there an increased risk to his job, one that hasn't necessarily been there previously?

Dalglish, despite being given a three year deal, was sacked after 1 season despite winning a trophy and getting to the final of a second, seemingly because of 8th place in the league.

This is not about should he go or individual views or perceived views (let's not second guess eachother), but rather what do you think the owners are expecting and how they will react one way or the other depending on our situation at the end of the season.

Will a 4th place finish suffice, or does it need to be accompanied by a trophy? Will a trophy (apart from the CL itself) be enough if we were to finish 5th, missing out on CL football, even if on goal difference by a single goal etc?

Where do we think the bar has been set and therefore what would be the minimum the owners would accept?

Whilst they have patience, they're not the Abramovich type thankfully, they certainly have a ruthless side to them.

Liverpool FC, football, sport / CL adventure 2014/15

The Star have computed  ;D best and worse draws for the English teams in the CL. Here's ours:

Best: Benfica, Basle, Liverpool, Maribor
Worst: Real Madrid, PSG, Liverpool, Roma

And the rest of the English teams:

CHELSEA

Best: Chelsea, Basle, Sporting Lisbon, Maribor
Worst: Chelsea, Paris St Germain, Ajax, Roma

ARSENAL

Best: Arsenal, Basle, Sporting, Maribor
Worst: Arsenal, PSG, Ajax, Roma

MANCHESTER CITY

Best: Benfica, Manchester City, Olympiacos, Maribor
Worst: Real Madrid, Manchester City, Ajax, Roma

I'm not sure whether it's possible, but I'd love Ajax, Roma and Olympiacos as they've all got some European Cup/Champions League history with us and it's too long since we've had Ajax at Anfield in European competition. Maybe swap out Roma for Basle to both increase our chances of qualifying out of the group  ::)  and to try and gain revenge for 2002/03.

If you do nothing else, and ignore all the links I post (I really couldn't blame you, if I wasn't me, I would too  ;D ), read this.

For me, and I imagine for several others of us here, this man truly embodies what this club is about.

Assaidi's transfer to Stoke is in danger of collapsing over his alleged £45K a week wage damands:

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/390963/Stoke-City-go-cold-on-Liverpool-winger-Oussama-Assaidi-due-to-colossal-wage-demands

Makes you wonder what he's getting with us.

The problem is every time the TV deal goes up, the players (and agents) think they should get the lion's share. Way more than enough is never enough.
